An area rug adds to the beauty of a room. Because it occupies a wide area of the room, it has the ability to tie the look of the whole room together. Although decorating with an area rug with a solid color might be risky, a blue area rug can do wonders for a room under the right circumstances.

First of all, there are a lot of shades and hues of blue. And each of them might be ideal under different situations. I will just discuss some of the more basic shades of blue.
Blue is a cool color and in general invokes calmness. The calming effect of the color results to the illusion of time passing more quickly. The calming effect can also help a person sleep. This makes a blue area rug ideal for a bedroom.
A dark blue area rug will also be great for an office. Culturally speaking, the color blue primarily conveys confidence and importance. This is why blue power suits are popular among corporate executives. Also, a lot of police uniforms are a dark blue color. Aside from confidence and importance, blue is also associated with conservatism, intelligence and stability.
If you want the calmness of the color blue but think that plain blue is too establishment and boring, you might want to consider getting an area rug with the color of dark slate blue. It is a shade softer than navy blue or dark blue. What I find nice with this color is it has a tinge of purple that gives it a bit of warm and rich feel.
Red is a warm color. Warm color will appears bigger than cool colors and will overpower a room’s color scheme. If you want to diffuse the redness of a room, having a blue area rug covering a large part of the room will do this. Hopefully these tips on using area rugs for the home will help in your decoration projects.
