Skylights can add visual interest to rooms that have high ceilings or high walls and they are also great at letting more natural light into a room. However, they can be somewhat inconvenient in that they can be somewhat inaccessible, and they can also tend to filter a lot of UV rays into a room during the heat of the day, causing the room’s temperature to rise to uncomfortable levels. For this reason, blinds for skylights are a necessity even though they are not the easiest to clean or install.

Most skylight blinds run on tracks that are installed down the side of the window frame, which allows them to fit snugly against the frame. These are often motorized blinds that are opened and closed using a remote. Others are made to open and close with a skylight window pole. There are many different types to choose from, ranging from venetian to roman to roller blinds. Choice is often based on whether or not the light entering the room needs to be filtered or moderated during the daytime. Venetian blinds are great as it is much easier to lessen the light by adjusting the position of the slats on the blind. Both roman and roller blinds, on the other hand, are not as effective.
Some people choose light filtering blinds for skylights. This particular skylight blind can be adjusted to allow different levels of light into the room at different times of the day. Alternatively, if you want to have the ability to totally darken a room that has a skylight you may need to install blackout blinds. These are useful to install in bedrooms or in home theaters, or any area where you need almost total darkness at times during the day.
Whatever type of blind you choose to install in your skylight, you will probably find that it is well worth the little extra you will need to pay to purchase motorized blinds. They are much simpler to use and providing you invest wisely when making your choice, maintenance costs should be fairly low.
