Installation of Driveway Lighting

Driveway lighting installation is actually fairly simply. You will need a little knowledge about light installation and electricity, a little money, and a few tools to help you out. The first thing to consider is what type of lighting you’d like to install: standard, low-voltage or solar. Then you’ll want to design the layout of your lights, and draft where you want them to be placed. This article will help you in your endeavor in installing the lights.

First, you should conduct a survey. You’ll need to know about the ground or driveway in which you’ll plan to install your lights – assess whether the surface is concrete, pavement, soil, or asphalt in order for you to prepare the right tools for the installation. As far as lighting placement, you don’t have to be too meticulous about this map yet. You just need a vision on where to place your lighting. Once you have mapped out where to put your driveway lights, you need to consider where to get the sources of electricity for them, should you opt for the standard or low-voltage driveway lighting. You may also want to ask an electrician to estimate how much you’ll be drawing. And of course if you aren’t familiar with electrical work, an electrician is the way to go.

After you have consulted with the electrician, it is time to install these lights to where you originally planned. A word of advice, do not just place these lights randomly. A well-planned and well-placed driveway lighting scheme will have a great impact to the overall appearance of your home. Design a solid strategy when placing these lights to give the best blend possible. You might also want to consider how your driveway lighting design blends with your other exterior lighting, such as outdoor pendants or sconce lighting.  If you are placing double headed driveway lights, you probably want to place them about 8-10 meters apart. A junction box will be needed for each light. For installation that includes burrowing the lights on or into the pavement, you may need the assistance of the professionals. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

Finally, solar lights are popular trend these days. These solar lights have photo sensitive cells that automatically adjust the intensity of the light according to the abundance of sunlight. These lights can last 8-10 hours before shutting off. Even with cloudy weather, solar lights still work at night – although they don’t illuminate as brightly.
