How to Avoid Replacing Your Rattan Furniture

Have you had your rattan furniture for ages but find that replacing your rattan furniture is out of the question? You can repair faded and damaged rattan furniture yourself and spruce it up a bit to make it look like you just got it out of the furniture store. You can bring it back to life by refurbishing it instead of buying a new set that may cost you a lot of money. You will need a few items before you can start. Most of the items can be found in your neighborhood hardware store. Here’s a list of things you need and steps to bring the beauty back to your rattan furniture:

Things you will need:

  • Dust mask
  • Safety glasses
  • Putty knife
  • Spray Primer
  • Medium grit sand paper
  • Exterior paint
  • Foam brushes
  • Wrought iron paint roller
  • Painting tray
  • Paint brush

Steps to Follow:

  • Step 1 – Use the putty knife to scrape away chipped areas. Wear a dust mask and goggles while doing this to protect your eyes and prevent yourself from inhaling potentially unhealthy particles.
  • Step 2 – Take the sandpaper and sand the furniture until smooth. Run your fingers over the surface of the furniture to check for even smoothness. It has to be smooth for the paint to lay on smoothly.
  • Step 3 – After sanding, wipe the rattan furniture till they are free of dirt and dust. It has to be clean for the primer to stick properly.
  • Step 4 – Hold the can of primer 6 inches from the surface and coat the furniture evenly.
  • Step 5 – After the primer dries, brush on the top coat of waterproof exterior paint. You can also use the wrought iron paint roller for the spindles. Allow it to dry and your rattan furniture should look brand new.

You will save a lot of cash by just repairing and refurbishing your rattan furniture yourself. As you can see, it is pretty simple and easy to do.
