Interior decorating is a expression of ones self that all can see. It takes only moments inside ones home to make a decision on the type of person they actually are. This is the best reason of all to take the task of furnishing your home into your own hands. Leaving the decisions to others or even professional may lead to great results but it will never be truly “you”.
One of my personal favorite style of designs is primitive decor. This can be defined as anything from the 1800s and back into the 1700s and it mostly is early American. Folk art gets alot of its inspiration from this period as well and mixes very nicely with primitive styling. the difference between the two mainly being that folk art is something that would have been crafted by a normal person from that period and primitive decor is usually made by fine furniture craftsman. There is nothing quite like a sideboard table from this period to bring a lively discussion to any home.
Another design style is abstract or modern styling. These homes usually use a lot of “clean lines” in their furnitures but are offset by some wildly creative paintings and art. This is a great home style for the independent minded and daring type. It goes remarkably well with “loft style” living or city apartments.
Perhaps you would even like to go with art deco for your home. This type of design has been around for nearly 100 years and does not seem to be going anywhere. It has influenced countless authors, designers, and artists and always makes a statement. Its geometric patterns couples with perfect symmetry make for a simple yet grandiose design. For one to use this in their own home they would have to be completely sure of themselves and ready to flaunt. If you can pull it off though it will be perhaps one of the most remarkable places anyone you know has ever entered.
There are many more styles of design and more are created every day. Get out there and find what you wish yours to be. Remember this will influence what everyone thinks of you so take your time with every piece and enjoy!
