Creating a Feminine Nursery For a Little Girl

Most parents decorate a baby girl’s nursery in a very feminine style. When choosing a color and theme for a baby girl’s nursery many parents first thoughts are something pink, and while a pink nursery is a wonderful choice, there are several other colors that are equally ideal for a little girl. Let’s take a look at some of the color choices, including pink, that work well for a feminine nursery for a baby girl.

All white is a wonderful choice and can be made to look either feminine or masculine according to how it is accessorized. Since we are talking about nurseries for girls, we want to go the feminine route. There are several nursery crib bedding selections that are solid white that feature lace and ribbon embellishments that would be absolutely stunning for a feminine nursery. White bedding for a little girl is also pretty when it’s trimmed in another color. Depending on the look you are after that color can be either pastel or bright.

After pink, lavender or shades of purple are some of the most widely used colors for little girl’s nurseries. Purple or lavender baby bedding can be found in both solid color fabrics as well as various printed fabrics. Many bedding sets that feature some type of garden or flower scene use lavender as a main color. Lavender combines well with pink, white and with several shades of blue and green.

While blue is traditionally the color for a little boy, blue can also be used for a girl. Shades of periwinkle blue and teal or peacock blue are especially suited for a little girl.

Green is a soothing color that like blue can be used for either gender, but can be made to have a feminine appeal. One of my favorite, extremely feminine uses of green is in the Storytime bedding collection by Glenna Jean. This set combines green and pink in satiny fabrics for bedding that is all girl.

Pink of course is great. Combined with other colors or alone, when you use the color pink, there is no mistaking the room as meant for anyone but a girl. If you like ultra girly, there are lots of bedding sets that will work for you. If you prefer something more tailored, but you want to use pink, you will find lots of choices as well. Pink and brown is a hot combination and there are quite a few bedding choices using this particular color combo.

Yellow or shades of orange deserve a mention as well. In fact almost any color can be used to create a feminine nursery for your little girl.

Grow Your Own Vegetable Garden

When you are thinking about how to grow your own vegetables, there are many factors and preparations to consider. You need to ask yourself a few questions. Where are you going to plant your new vegetable garden? How big should the garden be? Which vegetables or herbs would you like to grow?

Pick a location that is close to your house, but not so close as to be shaded by the house. Make sure there is plenty of fertile soil. Look for a location that has plenty of sunlight, not too close to shrubs or trees. Some vegetables do okay in partial locations, such as cabbage, turnips and other leafy vegetables. Vegetables that thrive in full sunlight include squash, tomatoes, corn, peppers and other “fruit”-bearing vegetable plants. You are going to need to research how often you may need to move your garden location or at least rotate the plant locations to avoid occurrence of plant diseases and soil depletion.

Now that you have chosen the location of your garden, you need to figure out how much room the vegetables will need. Many people choose to grow vegetables that their family enjoys and eats regularly. Steer clear of exotic vegetable plants until you have bcome more experienced. Hybrid vegetables are a good and healthy choice as they are better able to fight off disease and can withstand harsher weather.

The best way to plan your garden design is to make a diagram—which can best be done on graph paper—of the layout of your garden. You will want to make a note of the approximate date you want to plant each variety of vegetables. Place taller plants out of the way of smaller plants, so they do not cast a steady shade on them. You may want the taller plants slightly separated from the rest of the garden. Some people choose to grow their vegetables in pots in lieu of digging a garden. It is a matter of personal preference.

When to Avoid Using a Scarf Valance

When shopping for valances for windows, you need to think about which types of valance are suitable for the room you have in mind. For example, there are very crisp swags and tails which are most suitable for formal rooms in traditional style and which would be too staid for a child’s bedroom or bathroom. 1. Style of Room

The scarf valance is beautifully informal and soft but this means it does not go with more stylized contemporary interiors, which rely on straight edges and geometric prints. It is also unsuitable for a traditional room full of dark wooden furniture and classic colors. The draping qualities of a scarf valance are much more suitable for a softer style room such as a romantic bedroom or country style kitchen – the fabric of the valance helps determine the exact style.

2. Your Creativity

Many valances you buy ready made or order from a curtain maker are pretty much fixed in style and you just have to hang them up. A scarf valance, however, may rely on you draping it in a creative way over a drapery rod or pole. If you are worried by that, you are better to choose a different style of valance.

3. Need for an “Expensive Look”

Scarf valances have a cheap and cheerful look about them and they are, in fact, usually much lower in cost than other types of more formal valances. If you want your home to look as if you spent a lot of money on it (even if you didn’t) scarf valances are not going to help your cause.

A lot of people realize that a chandelier is a traditional fixture for dining rooms, whether it’s a classical crystal fixture or perhaps a modern chandelier with bended metal and bright lights. However, putting a chandelier in the kitchen, perhaps over an island, works well too and can really showcase the kitchen décor. You simply choose a design of chandelier that is sturdier, as opposed to the fragile type that is found in dining rooms. For the size, choose one that fits the kitchen. A really large kitchen can use a larger chandelier, whereas a small kitchen will need a smaller one.

The bathroom is another place to put a chandelier, whether it’s a small powder room that would look elegant with a small, graceful chandelier, or a large master bathroom that can handle a large, majestic one.
