Antique Farmhouse Kitchen Tables

For many years, antique farmhouse tables were fading out of the public eye, but today, because of their unique construction and rustic look, they are rapidly growing in popularity. Generally, the kitchen area was where the table was set, as it was the main place where the farmhouse family members would gather around seated, either on chairs or benches which could provide sufficient seating for a big group of people. The beautiful, sturdy wood that was available in that specific place during the time was used in the construction of this type of table and benches or chairs. Contrary to what many people may think, farmhouse tables were not only long and rectangular-shaped, they were also made in round, rectangular or square shapes, and they were even utilized as work areas or desks besides being used as dining tables. In most cases, these vintage tables were made of long wooden planks that were fixed atop the legs, corresponding to the longer sides of the table.  In many cases, the table legs were carved by hand from original designs taken from French sources and were made to mostly match or enhance their surroundings.

The adult family members would usually gather around the antique farmhouse kitchen table to discuss serious matters or decisions, and the children were tutored by their parents at evening time after they finished their day chores on the farm, and would then complete their school homework. Perhaps, it’s safe to assume that the meeting point for all members of the family was around such tables, probably a small reason for their appeal in the world today. Life in the past may not appear as easy as we perceive it was, but the serene atmosphere that surrounds family or friends in conversation about their lives around a kitchen table is a comforting thought.

Today, an authentic farmhouse kitchen table can be expensive and finding one that is low cost is not easy. The wood quality, skills and labor of craftsmen usually determine the prices of new, kitchen farmhouse tables. Antique fairs, small furniture shops or local newspapers are where you will be able to find a vintage kitchen farmhouse table in good condition. Large and new solid farmhouse wooden tables can add significant amounts by way of transportation costs to its original price.
